P05: SÖDERBOM, Fredrik (Uppsala, SWEDEN) Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Institute of Molecular Bioscienses (MBV)
Dr. Fredrik Söderbom is a group leader (assistant professor) at MBV. He obtained his PhD in 1997 from Uppsala University. The PhD topic concerned function and structure of regulatory RNAs in bacteria. After three years of postdoctoral studies at UCSD in San Diego/USA, where the subject was developmental control in D. discoideum, he returned to Sweden to set up his own lab. The main research topics concern posttranscriptional control of RNA and small regulatory RNAs in D. discoideum, combining the methodology and knowledge gained from his previous studies.
At present the group consists of the PI and one PhD student. A postdoctoral fellow will join his research group early next year and will focus on the function of a novel class of small RNAs. The P.I. has supervised two postdoctoral fellows and several undergraduate students. The laboratory is a member of a national network, RNomics, where some of the most prominent” groups in RNA biology focus on regulatory RNAs.
MBV is located at Uppsala Biomedical Center (BMC) where about 1500 scientists and research associated personnel are involved in research covering medicine, pharmacology, chemistry, and biology. MBV consists of three formal departments that recently were merged into one larger department where about 80 people are involved in different research projects.
