The IMBB is a non-profit research centre. It is part of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FO.R.T.H.), a general national research organisation dedicated to high quality basic and applied research. The IMBB houses about 25 research teams with a total of about 160 people working in different fields of molecular biology. It has the necessary instruments and infrastructure to carry out the proposed project. The IMBB runs a large number of R & D projects, most of them involving European or international collaboration. It is one of the leading national centres of molecular biology in Greece. The quality of its work is supervised regularly by a high profile Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC), which includes recognized experts of the field from Europe and USA. In addition, the IMBB is linked with the University of Crete in Heraklion.
